Overview

Extending a lenses focal length by a factor of 1.4x, Extender EF 1.4X III incorporates phenomenal optical performance with minimal chromatic aberration and is a perfect complement to many of Canon super telephoto lenses. It features a built-in microcomputer for seamless communication among camera body, lens and extender; features careful lens placement and coatings to minimize ghosting and flare and even has a new Fluorine coating that keeps soiling, smears and fingerprints to a minimum. An integral part of many professional systems, Extender EF 1.4X III maintains high standards not only optically, but also in terms of rugged, dustproof and water resistant construction.

I get very sharp images!
I resisted buying one because of not so hot reviews. Then I learned that pros use them and attribute problems to user error. So, I bought one. I use it mainly for shooting birds with a 5D IV and 100-400 IS II. I have also used it with a 77D. Bear in mind the longer focal length will require a steadier hold and/or higher shutter speed. Autofocus can struggle in low contrast situations. My results improved when I practiced steady holds. The photo below was shot at f/11 & 1/500 handheld. It's also been cropped at least 80%.

Perfect Compliment to 135L
I am using this 2X extender with my 135L, and I must say that after a little micro adjustment of +5, this is incredible! I now have a 270mm f/4 lens, and the images are very, very nice. Wide open (f/4), there is a little softness or dreamy effect, but stopped down to f/5.6, images are extremely sharp and contrasty. Yes, this will enhance any flaw in your lens, but with higher quality lenses, should not be much of an issue. AF is fast, I have not had any problems with its speed or accuracy. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this extender.

wrong tool
Auto focus will not work with Canon 70D and Canon100-400 f.4-f.56 - f stop loss is too much for it to handle. Would have been nice to know requirements before purchase. I have returned for refund.

Great Product
I use the 70-200 F2.8 ISII which is a versatile lens. This gives me another level of versatility and coupled with the 5DMKIII, I still have plenty of light. This is a great option until I can decide on whether the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM with the built-in Extender or the 500mm will be my next lens.

Works great on my 500 f4 ii lens. Minor IQ loss, well worth it for the added reach.

Great extender for my needs
Outstanding images with this in conjunction with my 300mmF2.8L. Frustrating that it does not work with the 100-400 F4.5L ll USM, while it did work with the original version of this lens, (although this was not consistent).

this extender did not work with my rebel t6i, my disappointed

Excellent addition.
Using it on my 70-200 IS USM version 2. Was really surprised by how well it works. So glad I spent the extra money. Well worth buying if you have a need for it. Wish I would have had it sooner because of all the pics I took before owning it.

Not happy with the autofocus
Not happy with the failure of auto focus while using my EF 100-400 zoom lense. It only works if I use the screen mode instead of the view finder to shoot.
