At the heart of the camera is a DX-format 20.9MP CMOS sensor, which benefits not only video production needs but also makes the Z30 a highly capable stills camera, too.
  • UHD 4K recording up to 30p is supported for crisp, high-resolution video needs. Full HD 120p recording is available, too, for slow-motion playback.
  • Continuous recording for up to 2 hours 15 minutes is possible for documenting events or any other situation that requires longer continuous takes.
  • Live streaming is possible at up to Full HD 60p or 4K 30p, and the Z30 is compatible with a variety of web conferencing apps, meaning it can easily function as a high-quality webcam, too.
  • For longer takes, streaming, and other instances where you need constant power, the Z30 can be powered via the USB Type-C port.

  • The large DX-format sensor benefits working in low-light conditions by producing imagery with low noise, high clarity, and a useful sensitivity range from ISO 100-51200, or up to ISO 25600 when recording video.

Vlogging Essentials
 
Purpose-built for vlogging and content creation, the Z30 incorporates a series of physical touches and operational functions perfect for creators:
  • Compact body design incorporates a 3.0" 1.04m-dot free-angle LCD screen. This positionable screen can face forward for accurate selfie compositions and can close inward to protect the screen from scratches and fingerprints when not in use.
  • Selfie-style controls permit changing the focus position and exposure, as well as setting the self-timer, via the touchscreen when the screen is facing forward.
  • Front red tally lamp clearly indicates when the camera is recording.
  • Special attention is given to audio recording with the inclusion of a top stereo microphone along with the inclusion of a 3.5mm external microphone port for working with an optional mic. Also, there is an optional dedicated Wind Muff to cut wind noise and improve quality when using the onboard mic.
  • Steady your handheld videos using the digital e-VR image stabilization, which helps to reduce unwanted wobbles and shakes while recording.
Fast, Reliable Autofocus
Hybrid autofocus system uses both phase-detection and contrast-detection methods to quickly and accurately acquire focus for both stills and video applications.
  • Eye Detection AF uses facial recognition to help lock focus onto subjects' eyes.
  • Face and eye tracking can recognize people, dogs, and cats, and can lock onto these subjects and track focus as they move around the scene.
  • Ideal for product close-ups, the AF system quickly and naturally shifts focus as you hold something up to the camera and then re-shifts focus to the subject as the product is moved away.
Connectivity and Operation
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth compatibility work with the Snapbridge app for mobile devices, enabling remote camera control as well as wireless transferring of photos and videos to your smartphone or tablet.

Perfect for podcast
A great entry level camera. So easy to use and has tons of features. Perfect to start a podcast. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars was the battery life is much to be desired.

Z30 as a street photography tool
Mine is a bit unusual for a Z30 review. I love street photography and a light, small camera is perfect for the stills I take on the street. I already own the super excellent Nikon Z8 but it is a bit large and the Z lenses for it are also large. My Z30, with its small 16-50 zoom or 24mm prime lenses, is less than half the size and weight of my Z8. The iPhone that is always with me has made me a fan of composing on a screen rather than a viewfinder, so the Z30 works well for me. Its adjustable screen brightness and excellent autofocus make it a quick and light workhourse for my street photos.

A year and a half and a lot of work.
Nearly a year and a half later, a bit of school, a lot of online research, and a pile of parts later. This thing is rigged out to get some of the best videos I could have asked for. While heat can be an issue, lens options are thin for the relative cost of the camera body, and features on comparable cameras may be lacking. This camera will help you get better at film and photo.

Excellent Camera
Overall great camera, especially for a beginner. I've already taken family photos with it outdoor overlooking a river, and the pictures were stunning. Also took it on a recent trip to Disneyland and the battery life did much better than I thought. The only time I had to charge it with my wireless charger I had was during the 25 minute long Christmas Parade. It did an excellent job. Only con i would say is there is no flash so when needed it can be difficult to get the perfect lighting for the shot you're trying to take.

Nikon's Z30 is a Corporate Video Monster!
As a +40 year Nikon user I was excited when Nikon announced thiscool little camera. I have gravitated over the years from shooting fashion and advertising to primarily shooting and videoing corporate gigs. I run 2 Z6ii's and a gen-1 Z6 for work now. They work great.

But I'm adding the service of providing live-streaming and SocNet video on-demand of training sessions/events for my clients. Enter the Z30. What a great solution over more formal videography needs and their attendant slow set-up and personnel-heavy productions. I can set up and run a multicam stream piped through an AtomX Cast with little to no drama, in under 15-20 munites. The Z30 is the perfect answer for the needs of online content providers, folks seeking to produce podcasts, etc. with 4k30p that's top-notch.

The Nikon Z30 is a tremendous video solution that can also shoot a decent still image if needed. Additionally, its small size and flippy screen make it a very capable C-Cam for tight spots and unattended angles [no camera Op, so set and forget] on bigger productions [the 12-28PZ coupled with the ML-L7 remote is brilliant on a jib, slider, or stashed up high for BTS coverage].

TL;DR: The Z30 is a very capable industry-leading SMALL video solution for certain situations.

A Welcome Change
Before the Z 30, I had not been able to use a mirrorless camera other than on loan. I've ended up enjoying the lack of a viewfinder more than I expected and the adjustment was very natural. As noted in other reviews, the only con I'd list was the USB charging component provided being the only charger that is part of the camera kit. I've enjoyed learning the capabilities and limitations of the Z 30 with my work primarily being in low-lighting concerts, and I look forward to working more with it.

Good little camera
This is nice little camera for stills and very nice video camera

I like new but....
I like the speed of the new cameras and this one is a pleasure to use. I am a long time "viewfinder" guy but I am getting used to using the display especially since using pocket cameras. A little difficult in bright sun but guess I will lean to deal. Miss the flash though. Yes, cameras are fast in natural light but I often use daylight fill. I will pay for a viewfinder, flash and battery charger. Give us the option! They can't cost that much!
