Overview

Designed for full-frame E-mount cameras, this telephoto macro can also be used on APS-C systems where it provides a 135mm equivalent focal length.
True macro design affords a life-size, 1:1 magnification ratio along with an 11" minimum focusing distance for working with close-up subjects. A focusing distance and magnification scale is also printed on the top of the lens to aid in more technical applications.
Two extra-low dispersion elements, including one Super ED element, are featured in the lens design and helps to reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
One aspherical element is incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
A Nano AR Coating has been applied to reduce surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for increased contrast and color rendering in strong lighting conditions.
A Direct Drive SSM system and internal focus mechanism provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance and also contributes to more natural, intuitive manual focus control. An internal focus design further enhances usability by improving AF speed and ensuring that the overall length of the lens does not change during use.
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
A focus range limiter switch allows you constrain the usable focus range between 11-19.7", 19.7"-infinity, or full, and a focus hold button is also featured to manually stop the autofocus at a specified point.
This lens' focusing ring can be slid forwards and backwards to quickly shift from manual to autofocus modes, and vice versa.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

A Must have lens for your Sony Kit
This is such a sharp versatile lens that I'd recommend it high in the list of anyone's Sony Kit. With a longer focal length of 90mm and wide aperture, you can get stunning shots with nice bokeh and depth of field for both portraits and macro photography. A definite must-have lens for any Sony kit that'll allow you to get up close and personal to your subject to allow a whole new perspective of the world. Nice build quality, lightweight and the ability to move the ring back and forward from A/F to M/F is an excellent feature, and for its relatively cheaper price compared to other Sony lenses, what more could you ask for? I've included a couple of sample images I took on a tripod to show the absolute best the lens can offer.

It's in the same class as the 85GM Bokeh not as ball like, it is a good lens for portraiture and macro and usable for street photography.

Glass - Amazing, macro results - 1:1 perfection
Ive had it for a while and this is the lens i use the most. It is so versatile; i can take portraits and then, oh look a bumblebee and straight in fill the frame with the lil guy. Frankly i cant fault the lens in any way... I dont know what i can say about it thats bad... I wish it was cheaper???

A Wonderful Lens
I bought this lens two weeks ago, and am delighted with it. Its macro facilities are fabulous, but it's also a great portrait lens

The FE90 Macro does it all
This is the macro lens that I have been waiting for for years. It has 1 to 1 magnification without an extension tube and internal focusing. Imaging quality is equal to the best competition and ease of use in fantastic. It also will double as an excellent portrait lens.

Superior lens to most i have owned
I would love to do an extended review of the lens, but this is a Covid-19 lockdown version. I love it, that would in itself be a fine testament, I have never done much in the way of macro but aim to do more as the results are so much better than with other macro lenses I have had. It's also an outstanding lens for portraits if anything it's too sharp I would have no hesitation to recommend the FE90 macro to anyone.

Super sharpness
Put my Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens, plus a couple of Canon items, in PX for this lens. The Tamron was very good but this is even better IMHO. Sharpnes is very good even wide open and improves on stopping down. Well made and with nice features e.g. push/pull collar for AF/MF switching and a focus lock button. Also usable as a portrait or general purpose lens its only downside is slightly slower AF than say the 24-105mm G

Sony's most versatile lens
I bought this lens a couple of weeks ago and I'm very happy with my purchase. I have used this lens for stills and video on a Sony A7RII and it's overall quality and sharpness is incredible.
