Overview

Tamron AF 28-75mm 2.8 Di III RXD Sony FE Mount

Blending a sleek form-factor with a versatile working range, the 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD from Tamron is a full-frame-compatible lens for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. Spanning wide-angle to portrait-length, a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture complements this range and affords increased control over depth of field along with enhanced low-light performance. The optical design incorporates a series of low dispersion and aspherical elements, which produce a highly corrected image with reduced spherical and chromatic aberrations for improved sharpness and clarity. Elements also feature Tamron's BBAR coating, which suppresses flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color fidelity when working in backlit and harsh lighting conditions. Benefitting the optical design is an RXD stepping motor, which enables quick, near-silent autofocus performance to suit stills and video, along with full-time manual focus override and a minimum focusing distance of 7.5". Suiting this lens's use in harsh climates, it also sports a moisture-resistant construction along with a fluorine-coated front element to protect against fingerprints and smudging.

Versatile standard zoom is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 42-112.5mm equivalent focal length range.
Bright constant f/2.8 maximum aperture affords consistent brightness throughout the zoom range and offers improved control over depth of field.
One XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) element and one LD (Low Dispersion) element greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to realize improved clarity and color accuracy.
Two hybrid aspherical elements and one molded glass aspherical element minimize distortions and spherical aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and accurate rendering.
BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating has been applied to individual elements in order to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting to achieve greater contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) autofocus motor delivers impressively quiet, quick, and smooth focusing performance to suit both stills and video applications. This focusing system also offers a minimum focusing distance of just 7.5"and a 1:2.9 maximum magnification for working with close-up subjects. Full-time manual focus override is also possible and it is compatible with Sony's Direct Manual Focus function or fine-tuned manual control.
A moisture-resistant construction benefits this lens' use in inclement conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front lens element to protect against dust, dirt, and smearing.
  • Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
  • Aperture Range F/2.8-F22, 9 Circular Blades
  • Filter Size 67mm
  • Moisture-resistant construction and Fluorine coated elements
  • RXD Stepping Motor for quiet autofocus

Great F2.8
First lens for my A7RIII. I love the f2.8 aperture. I am able to achieve some nice bones effects with the wide open aperture. I dont have experience to the comparative sigma or Sony lenses, but this was the most 'budget friendly.'

Looking forward to what this lens can produce!

What a lens!!
This lens works so well for studio, publication, and other professional purposes. Good lens for a range of expertise and skill. I use it for webcam streaming also and it works beautifully!

Tamron baby!
I own Sony camera's and while I own a few Sony lenses. They don't come cheap! Tamron is good quality lens, that won't hit your wallet nearly as much. I prefer prime lenses, but this Lens is super versatile! Been using a lot more for my portrait work.

Great Portrait Lens
I love this lens. It is perfect for portraits and the price is so reasonable.
M
Awesome lens at a great price!
This lens checks all the boxes. Good sharpness for a zoom lens, and good color even wide open. The weight is a good balance for a Sony alpha mirrorless body compared to some of the other lenses in this focal range. I would highly recommend this lens. I own 2 for my photo studio and wouldn’t hesitate to buy another.

Perfect match for the A7iii
This lens is spectacular, probably the only lens you need for most photography assignments. Completed my first wedding with it and it delivered in every regard, speedy AF and the IQ that rivals sony’s GM line, all for $800. A minor con, a bit of flare with the sun directlly into the lens, not sure if the UV filter made things worse but there’s that.
A
Great value and sharp images.
The image qualty of this lens is fantastic. I ended up exchanging it for the 17-28 because that focal length works better for my video purposes, but if you're looking for a third party zoom that takes great stills this is a great option.
C
Amazing
I had purchased the Sony 18-105mm lens and had to return it because it would not focus. I found out about the unusable footage when I was doing post processing on my computer. All my videos were unusable. I was able to return it and paid a little extra for this lens. I felt skeptical at first, but boy was I in for a pleasant surprise!

This lens performed so well, I was amazed of how my photos came out! I was worried the zoom ring would not perform like the Sony's zoom button. It exceeded my expectations at every level. I saw people with more expensive gear and I could put my pictures toe to toe with any of them!

I am using a Sony a6400 paired with this lens. The weight balances fine if you are going to be using it handheld. It does not have stabilization but I found out I did not need it. Stabilization was a big factor in choosing a lens but you will be fine without it.

This has become my favorite lens, so much so that I want to sell my Sony lenses to buy more Tamron!
