Spanning a wide-angle to portrait-length range and featuring a bright design that excels in low-light and for controlling depth of field, this lens is all about versatility in a compact package.

Optics

  • Covering wide-angle to short-telephoto focal lengths, this lens is ideal for a variety of shooting situations, including landscape, street, portraiture, documentary, and travel applications.
  • Constant f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in available lighting conditions and offers increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus effects.
  • One Super ED element and one extra-low dispersion element greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to produce greater clarity and color rendering.
  • Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.
  • Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Autofocus

  • Stepping motor maintains quick and quiet autofocus performance that's ideal for both photo and video needs.
  • An internal focusing design is used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
  • Minimum focusing distance of 7.5" benefits working with close-up subjects.
  • Focus breathing has been suppressed to benefit video use and maintain a consistent field of view when changing focus.

Physical Design

  • Impressively compact and lightweight design for an f/2.8 standard zoom, this lens measures just 4.8" long when retracted and weighs 30% less than the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S lens.
  • Programmable Control Ring is, by default, set to adjust manual focus but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.
  • Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
  • Dust- and moisture-resistant lens barrel benefits the lens' use in inclement conditions. There is also an antifouling coating on the front of the lens that resists smudging, fingerprints, and dirt and is easy to clean.

Good lens with occasional focus issues
I bought this lens recently and used it for a wedding. I owned f4 lens, wanted to capture low light scenes. The f2.8 lens works well in all the conditions except, it doesn't focus at times. I observed it in videos also, at times - it loses the focus. I am hoping Nikon will fix the issue with a software update.

Good lens!
This lens gives very clean and sharp images with the Nikon colors. The only thing is that it's not an "S Line" lens, so you do notice a SLIGHT difference in handling and build quality. Still an amazing lens, but if that matters to you, you might be happier with the Z24-70 2.8 (which is about $1000 more).

The Nikkor Z 28-75 is just a great lens!
I have not read to many reviews about this lens other than it is a "knock-off" of an earlier version Tamron lens and I really don't know anything about that. But what I do know is that the Nikkor Z 28-75 has really been a joy to work with. I use it to shoot indoors at basketball and volleyball games and also do some portrait work with it and it produces wonderful images. I really don't understand why you would spend the extra $1000 on the Nikkor Z 24-70, when you can do just as well with the Nikkor Z 28-75. The lens is serving its purpose quite well.

A great lens for the price!
A great leans for half the price. I used inside for a volleyball game and the images were flawless. I highly recommend this lens.

Awesome Affordable Native Lens
This is an awesome lens! I own a 24-70 f/4 S line lens that is my go to for events, but I wanted a Nikon native affordable faster zoom lens for portraits. I’m glad that I purchased the 28-75 f/2.8 lens when it was on sale. It has beautiful bokeh and the colors are beautiful. It’s also very sharp. I still use my prime lenses for portraits too, but this has become one of my favorite portrait lenses. I haven’t tried it for video yet.

Amazing lens and great price!
I always used to shoot on the 24-70 f mount and wanted to give this a try over the 24-70 s to see how noticeable the difference would be. I absolutely love it! I don't even notice the 4mm on the wide end and I actually enjoy the 5mm of extra reach. Definitely would reccomend!
