Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S Lens

Complementing the optical design, a multi-focus system, which employs two stepping motors, helps to realize impressively fast, accurate, and quiet focus performance, along with full-time manual focus override, to suit both stills and video needs. Additionally, a programmable control ring can be set for intuitive adjustment over a variety of camera and exposure settings.

Prime portrait-length lens is designed for FX-format Z-mount mirrorless cameras.
Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field for isolating subjects and working with selective focus.
Two extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color rendering.
A Nano Crystal Coat, along with a Super Integrated Coating, has been applied to lens elements to minimize surface and internal reflections for a marked reduction in lens flare and ghosting.
Multi-focus system incorporates two separate AF drive units, which are synchronized, to deliver especially fast and accurate focusing performance. This system uses stepping motors, which offer impressively smooth and quiet autofocus qualities, that are well-suited to both stills and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also possible and an internal focusing design is used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
Programmable Control Ring is, by default, set to adjust manual focus, but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.
Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.
Dust- and moisture-resistant lens barrel benefits the lens' use in inclement conditions.

Best 85mm I've ever owned!
I purchased this 85mm to be the portrait lens for my Z6. It's stunning with portraits! Amazing, honestly. This lens will be with me for years. I've shot indoor sports at F1.8 several times and even outdoor sports in DX mode. Can't complain about anything. It's silent. It's sharp, even wide open.

Z85 mm lens is a winner
Sharp crisp pictures from a fast, lightweight lens. Even though the Nikon adapter gives me the option of using my f mount85 mm len with my Z7, this lens is far superior

Very Nice
This is my first 85mm prime lens. I have the 35 and the 50 F1.8 Z mount lenses. I also have the 50mm F1.8 and 105mm F2.8 F mount lenses. I really like the rich colors and bokeh that I get with this lens. Images are sharp. Works well in low light with my Z7. I am pleased with this purchase.

Attached are two images. The Original is too big to upload here. Good detail retained from Original to medium to small crops sizes.

Wonderful lens
Amazing lens. It balances well on the Z bodies; it's fast, quiet, and super sharp. You can maintain a low profile and still get superior images. Most 1.4 lenses call attention to themselves, this lens may not be attention-grabbing, but the images are.

I love the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S. You will too.
I love 85mm for its background compression. I have owned the AFS 85mm f/1.4E for years and loved it, but, I sold it a week after shooting with the Z 85mm f/1.8 S! I was doing a shoot for a family at their home and was switching between the two 85's. When I got the pictures in the computer for editing I was amazed. Shocked, honestly, at the color rendition of the Z 85, its clarity, acuity, bokeh, and sharpness. it was visibly better than the f/1.4. I love the 85 1.4 (and still have the 105mm f/1.4E) but one session with the Z 85 and I was genuinely converted with no regrets. Plus, this little 85 is small enough to do street photography, travel, just about anything and still be fairly inconspicuous.
