- Answer to question aboveI am by no means an expert on photography but the f indicates how much light is let in. The lower the value, the more focused the subject is and the blurrier the background is. So, a 1.0 is great for flowers or still objects but tougher for people. As for comparing the 18-200, I am going for this since I don't want that large of a lens. I feel like the 18-200 is for people who don't want to change lenses and don't mind using such a large lens ALL the time. For me, it was a non-starter. Sony also only says this supports the new cameras. I'm assuming this is a misprint since it should support any NEX mount camera. Anyone know anything different?
- In real world useHad this lens for a while, its a bit of a mixed bag. Image quality is fair to good when used carefully, but you should be warned this is not a sports lens, focusing is far too slow. Trying to take shots of the dog playing resulted in a 100% failure rate, similarly moving boats in bright sunshine in Spain took a few moments to lock on. On the other had, static images, views and distant objects are rendered well, with a fair amount of detail and low distortion. I would recommend this lens as a general purpose, light telephoto for general use.
