Great single lens
Similar to other reviews, I travel a lot and need both a telephoto for bird photography and a scenery and surroundings lens. I was hoping this would be the lens that does both, and so far, it really is. I'm shooting it with a Z5 II body, and am very impressed with the results. I don't see a need for any other lens at this point.

Great Travel Lens!
I own quite a few Nikon Z Lens. I bought the 28-400 Z lens as I have a trip coming up with a severe flight weight requirement. I tested it out on my Z 8 and I have been absolutely amazed. It is off to a VERY GOOD START! I leave the 400 Prime on my Z 9 full time. I fort bought the 100-400 Z S lens as that is what was available then. The 400mm lens I bought to get sharper images and I had found I needed the 400 mm range a LOT! But after using the 28-400 on the Z 8 I will leave most of my gear at Home when I make the Trip to a Bush camp in Alaska where the last flight requires a very light weight, and it even requires I step on the scale too. I also am taking my 24-70 f 4 S lens as I do believe for video that is better than the 28-400 for video especially in the shorter zoom range.

Really delivers.
5 stars for the versatility and image quality in a more travel friendly all around lens. The narrow aperture is a given disadvantage but wow, can it really deliver. Ran a Z9 with the 180-600 and this on a Zf for a lighter second body/shooter setup. Images are more than acceptable and the speed and such is quite impressive for the price and "mid range" build of this lens. Really happy with it and it's a great all arounder for traveling light.

Very impressed!
Looking for a good versatile travel lens and knowing I had 1 week to get a full refund on my purchase, I set out to test this lens outdoors attached to my Z8. Conclusion - I'm keeping this one. Things I love are the lightweight, great range at both ends, fast AF and the price. I was worried about the f/8 beyond 200mm and although I didn't get the nice blurred backgrounds, my auto ISO compensated for lower light conditions just fine. I've attached a photo of an osprey nest that was about 75' from the walking path. This photo did have noise reduction using LRC but very little editing. It was also heavily cropped to fill the frame. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.
